DISORDERS NEAR HONG-KONG
China Claims Compensation
NANKING, JANUARY 21.
The Chinese Foreign Office presented a Note to the British Embassy here to-night claiming full compensation for the squatters involved in the recent Kowloon (Hong-Kong) rioting and protesting against the British evictions. It was the attempt by Britain to evict the squatters which gave rise to the Canton anti-British riots.
Sir Ralph Stevenson, the British Ambassador, yesterday claimed full compensation for the burning of British buildings at Canton, and requested immediate investigations. No mention of this request was made in the Chinese Note to-day.-Reuter.
